Great Sitting Comfort

GCI Outdoor PICO Chair Sage

GCI Outdoor PICO Chair Sage

After reading the review that this chair received from the Wall Street Journal, I asked my wife to get it for me for my birthday. The chair arrived within a few days and it is everything that I expected.

Chair set-up is a little more difficult than expected, but after three or four tries it is no longer a problem. The chair is very sturdy and comfortable. Plenty of seat room makes it a pleasure to sit in.

I highly recommend this chair if you go to a lot of kids baseball and soccer games and other events such as concerts in the park like this grandpa does. It makes sitting through the game a pleasure. Unfortunately, the chair does not guarantee your team will win.

Adendum: After owning this chair for several years, I still think it is a great product. However, I have had occasion to carry this chair on hiking and fishing trips and I have to admit it gets pretty heavey after a while. Nine pounds may not sound like a lot, but after a few miles you will notice the weight, especially if you are carrying other objects.

  1. The chairs are comfy (I'm 275 lbs and am comfortable in the chair), very compact, and easy to fold/unfold (after you get used to doing it). We got them because in a convertible with the top down space is very tight. "Regular" folding/camp chair wouldn't fit in the trunk. These fit with ease. The bag and additional pockets are a nice touch. They were $40 cheaper on Amazon.com than on other Web sites.

  2. Having never actually seen one of these chairs, i bought one on a gamble that it would be easy to carry on the rear baskets of my bicycle. Well, it worked out very well and when i want to go to the beach and sit and watch the waves, this chair stays up good on the soft sand and is very comfortable. Very well made. And very compact. And since i lost it or it may have been stolen when i went into the grocery store, i now have to buy another one, bummer. It would probably be hard to find another chair that is as good quality as this one that folds as small as this chair. Great for transport on bicycles and motorcycles. UPDATE! I just found the chair, i had misplaced it under a table! Like finding a hundred dollar bill!

  3. Love this chair! Easy to carry and lightweight--as chairs go. Suggest practicing opening and closing a few times and you'll be golden.

  4. My wife purchased this chair for me because I needed a directors type chair for traveling to my grandkids away travel games. I have arthritis in my lower back and need a portable chair which has a separate back and seat. Other director type chairs work well but take took too much of the limited room in the trunk/luggage area(Six of us in a van with all our luggage). This chair folds into a small 12" x 20" x 4" rectangular package - much smaller than the equivalent size folding chair. I am 6 foot tall and weigh 190 lbs. I have sat comfortably in this chair for eight 60-minute games.

  5. Excellent chair. Well thought out design. I'm a big guy (300 lbs) and this chair has not worn out with a lot of use. I keep this chair in my car trunk, so I pull it out whenever I want to sit down. I get a lot of comments on the chair, people asking me where they can get one.

One of the mechanisms on my chair sticks a little, so I need to make sure it is totally raised before I open the sides. Worst that happens is the chair sides don't allow me to open it up and I need to put my foot on the base and lift up again then it opens. If it doesn't open up on the first try, I never tried to force the sides open, figuring I might brake something. Even with this little flaw, I rated it high because I totally love my chair.

  6. This chair was much easier to carry then some I have. Easy to open, and I like the mesh that allows air flow.

  8. I just bought 2 of these chairs for my class B camper (08 Pleasureway Ascent). They're the only chair I found that allows me to carry 2 in the limited storage space in my camper. These are also one of the most comfortable chairs I've found as well. Now that we have them I'm finding more uses for them. They're light weight and the carry case makes it convenient to carry the chairs as well as a book, laptop, and a cup of coffee along with you. It's great for urban hiking as well as around the state parks.

  9. I just bought a pair of these for next year's boating season. They were delivered quickly and I couldn't wait to check them out. I've never seen such a compact/light chair! At about the size of a large laptop bag they're perfect for stowing in small spaces. There are instructions for set-up included, which was a good thing for the first time, but they unfold really easily and are comfortable to sit in. FYI: good for average to smaller sized people - I would think a larger(over 250 lbs) person wouldn't feel too comfortable in these chairs.
